Our Story
Mission Statement: The DNWP promotes local talent, commerce and innovation to enhance the quality of life and to support a new birth of civic energy.
Since 2001, the Downtown North Wilkesboro Partnership, a 501(c)(3), has been a N.C. Main Street affiliated organization focused on economic development through rehabilitation of our historic downtown district. Other focuses include developing, promoting, managing and enhancing the quality of life and commerce in Downtown North Wilkesboro and thereby in the county and surrounding area. It receives funds through a significant grant from the Town of North Wilkesboro, other grants and donations, and fund raising projects.
The Partnership has maintained a National Main Street Community designation with its rights and privileges. It has also received accreditation through NCMS for several years. It is the organization's function to fund the beautification of downtown through streetscape banners and large flower pots planted with flowering and ornamental plants. In addition, our Design and Preservation Committee manages a grant program to businesses for facade improvements and mural projects.
Our volunteer organization hosts several events, Light Up Downtown, Marketplace Meltdown and Downtown Art Walks, that attract visitors and residents downtown throughout the year. We often partner with other local groups, like Wilkes Art Gallery and Wilkes County Library, to host outdoor movies, live music and tours.
The Partnership board meets the second Thursday of each month at 5:30PM in the upstairs conference room at North Wilkesboro Town Hall, 208 9th Street. These meetings are open to the public. If you would like more information, or are interested in joining our board, email Crystal Keener at tourism@north-wilkesboro.com or call 336-667-7129.
